Jungle Adventure

Reception and transfer. Our team welcomes passengers at the airport, bus terminal, or accommodation in Puerto Maldonado. After a short briefing and organizing luggage, we head to the port to begin the expedition on the Madre de Dios River.

River navigation. The adventure begins navigating one of the most important rivers in the Peruvian Amazon. Along the way you may spot herons, kingfishers, cormorants, turtles, capybaras, caimans, parrots, and macaws. Our guide explains the river’s importance as a biological corridor and source of life for hundreds of species.

Arrival at the lodge. On arrival you are welcomed with a natural drink made from Amazonian fruits. After check-in and room assignment, you have time to rest and get familiar with the facilities.

Amazonian lunch. Enjoy a lunch prepared with fresh regional ingredients; vegetarian options and special diets are available on request.

Environmental interpretation hike. In the afternoon we walk primary forest trails with a naturalist guide, learning about giant trees over 500 years old, Amazonian palms, medicinal plants, fungi, tropical insects, lianas, orchids, and giant ferns. We may also spot monkeys, toucans, woodpeckers, tanagers, Morpho butterflies, and other forest inhabitants.

Night walk. After dinner we set out on a completely different experience. As night falls, the forest reveals a hidden world. Equipped with flashlights, we walk trails where we may encounter Amazonian frogs, glowing insects, tarantulas, snakes, scorpions, night monkeys, and small mammals. The silence of the forest, broken only by natural sounds, makes this one of the most memorable activities of the trip.

Amazon sunrise. The first rays of sun announce the forest waking up. After breakfast we begin one of the most anticipated excursions in the program.

Lake Sandoval. We navigate calmly across a lake surrounded by primary forest. The silent navigation allows us to approach numerous species without disturbing their behavior: giant otter, hoatzin, herons, kingfisher, cormorants, jacanas, turtles, black caiman, and white caiman. Our guide shares information on the lake’s ecology and the importance of protecting this delicate ecosystem.

Lunch. We return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional Amazonian lunch, followed by free time to rest.

Scientific observation tower. In the afternoon we climb a tower approximately 35 meters high. From this platform we take in the Amazon canopy, one of the least explored habitats on the planet. Depending on conditions, we may spot macaws, parrots, toucans, eagles, falcons, and monkeys, as well as flocks of birds crossing the horizon, along with an extraordinary panoramic view of the tropical forest.

Night navigation for caiman watching. After a short safety and wildlife briefing, we board a boat to travel the river. With the help of flashlights we can spot the glow in the eyes of caimans, as well as nocturnal birds, capybaras, and other animals active at night.

Sunrise birdwatching (optional). Before breakfast we take a short walk to enjoy the time of day when birds are most active, with chances to spot toucans, macaws, oropendolas, tanagers, and woodpeckers. Morning light offers ideal conditions for nature photography.

Breakfast. We enjoy a final Amazonian breakfast surrounded by the tropical forest.

Free time. Before departure you can relax, photograph the lodge, and enjoy the last sounds of the rainforest.

Return. We board the boat once more to return to Puerto Maldonado. Our staff transfers you to the airport, hotel, or bus terminal. End of our services.
