Itinerary

Day 1 Welcome to the Amazon Rainforest

Our team gives you a warm welcome and accompanies you to the port to begin navigating the Madre de Dios River. Along the way you take in the first Amazonian landscapes and spot riverside birds, turtles, capybaras, and, depending on the season, caimans resting on the riverbanks.

On arrival at the lodge, you receive a welcome drink prepared with tropical fruits and an orientation briefing on the program, safety rules, and good environmental practices. After lunch, you have time to settle in and rest before an introductory walk along the lodge’s trails.

Night walk. As night falls, the forest reveals a completely different setting. Equipped with flashlights, we explore trails where we may find frogs, insects, tarantulas, geckos, snakes, and small nocturnal mammals. Our guide interprets the sounds of the forest and explains the adaptations of the species that inhabit this ecosystem.

We return to the lodge to enjoy dinner and rest.

Day 2 Lake Sandoval and Observation Tower

After an early breakfast, we head toward Lake Sandoval. Following a walk through primary forest, we enter one of the most representative ecosystems of the Peruvian Amazon.

Canoe navigation. Aboard a paddle canoe we silently travel the waters of the lake, increasing our chances of spotting giant river otters, black caimans, hoatzins, herons, kingfishers, cormorants, Amazonian turtles, and monkeys in the treetops. Our guide shares information on the lake’s ecological importance and the conservation efforts carried out in the Tambopata National Reserve.

Lunch. Return to the lodge to enjoy an Amazonian lunch prepared with fresh regional produce.

Observation tower. In the afternoon we climb a tower approximately 35 meters high. From this platform you get a privileged view of the Amazon canopy, home to numerous bird and mammal species rarely seen from the ground. With some luck you may spot macaws, toucans, eagles, parrots, howler monkeys, and capuchin monkeys.

Night navigation. At dusk we take a boat excursion to observe caimans and other species active at night. The reflection of their eyes on the water creates an unforgettable experience for nature lovers.

Day 3 Parrot Clay Lick, Primary Forest, and Local Culture

Dawn at the parrot clay lick. Very early we head to a natural clay lick, where different species of parrots and parakeets gather to consume clay rich in essential minerals for their diet. The sight of hundreds of birds flying over the river, with their intense colors and calls, is one of the most memorable moments of the trip.

Breakfast. Return to the lodge to enjoy breakfast.

Primary forest hike. Afterward we take an environmental interpretation hike along little-disturbed trails, learning about centuries-old trees, Brazil nut trees, cedar, shihuahuaco, giant lianas, palms, and medicinal plants used by Amazonian communities. Our guide explains the ecological relationships that keep the tropical forest in balance.

Lunch. Traditional Amazonian lunch at the lodge.

Visit to a family farm. In the afternoon we visit a farm run by a local family. During this experience you will learn about traditional local crops such as cacao, bananas, papaya, pineapple, cassava, and sugar cane, and about the sustainable farming techniques used by Amazonian communities and the importance of family farming in the development of Madre de Dios.

Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4 Farewell to the Amazon

Before breakfast we take a short walk to enjoy the morning activity of the wildlife. The first hours of the day offer excellent opportunities to spot toucans, macaws, oropendolas, woodpeckers, tanagers, and parrots.

After breakfast you have time to take photographs and enjoy the last moments surrounded by the rainforest. We then begin the return, navigating the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado, where our staff transfers you to the airport, hotel, or bus terminal. End of our services.
